Alan Jones

is currently the Performing Arts Librarian at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) where he is also a lecturer in the film department. His research interests include video art and multimedia performances. He has curated many theatre exhibitions, working with international partners including the Russian State Art Library and the Comédie-Française. He has also championed diversity in collecting drama for RCS library, creating an international resource. He is the President of SIBMAS, the ITI-UNESCO society representing libraries, museums, and archives of performing arts. Through SIBMAS he has worked towards saving performance culture globally and forged significant global partnerships including chairing many conferences. In addition, his recent advocacy for museum and library workers facing massive cuts in the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Theatre and Performance Department with a petition helped to spotlight the issue. He writes journalistic features and academic papers, plus periodically undertakes arts broadcasting for BBC radio. He worked as a producer for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and continues to organise high profile events in Glasgow that showcase theatre in the community. In October the US-based Theatre Library Association selected him as the 2021 recipient of the Louis Rachow Distinguished Service in Performing Arts Librarianship Award to recognise his advocacy in saving performing arts collections.
