主題︰懷念周凡夫

It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Chow Fan-fu. He was one of a kind—an affable soul, forever brimming with ideas and a mine of information.

We first met in Singapore when he visited the Singapore Symphony, where I was working at the time, and I was immediately impressed by how much he knew about the Music Director Choo Hoey and the orchestra’s history.

He was a link with that period and an immediate resource for information about Hong Kong when I returned to join the Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) team. His annual review of the Festival was probably more important to us than he realised, and was eagerly anticipated.

With the 50th HKAF approaching, the team unanimously agreed that he be invited to contribute and I will always be grateful for his readiness in accepting the assignment.

We shared many wonderful meals together over the years, often in the company of friends at the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Dr Celina Chin and Mr Yan Huichang. Our gatherings were always enlivened by his sharp observations and engaging commentary. Each time he left me inspired by his enthusiasm, energy and boundless curiosity. Mr Chow struck me as being someone who knew how to live.

He has left us, but he will always be with us.

Rest in peace, my friend. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and to all who treasure him.
