Case Studies on Hong Kong Drama

"Case Studies on Hong Kong Drama" Programme

One of the major publication series in IATC(HK) in recent years is to organize and fine-comb local theatre history that has yet to be filled out, to document Hong Kong’s theatre history based on limited resources available. Projects published include case studies targeting local creative professionals, such as Danny YUNG, TANG Shu-wing, MOK Chiu-yu, Hoyingfung, etc. Apart from studies on local creative professionals, IATC(HK) has also conducted research on the history and phenomenon of arts and cultural development, organizing and publishing a number of specialized books, including “From Artform to Platform - Hong Kong Plays and Performances 1900-1941”, “Hong Kong Drama Shan Hai Jing: Theatre Arts Workshop ’97 Recording” and so on. At the same time, we have done preliminary organization on 40 years of Hong Kong art critiques and published “Drama Criticism in Hong Kong (1960-1999)” and over 5,000 review entries. We have received funding from Hong Kong Arts Development Council for four consecutive years on the “Hong Kong Drama Yearbook” project with Hong Kong Drama Society and the Hong Kong Theatre Works.

These studies and publications, indeed, laid the foundation for IATC(HK) work in organizing the history of theatre development in Hong Kong. In order to further activate current resources and conduct in-depth probes into the history of theatre development through case studies or specialized studies, IATC(HK) has successfully obtained subsidy from Arts Development Council in its “Multi-Project Grant”. We will be launching our “Case Studies on Hong Kong Drama” programme, and have officially launched our “Project/Case Study" consultant and editorial team in 2010 to carry out relevant research projects with expectations to gradually piece together a view of local theatre development.
